Last night I attended my cousin’s Thursday acting class at Richard Lawson Studios. There were multiple events going on that influenced my decision to sit in for my second time. My cousin was presenting a five-minute scene from Keifer Sutherland’s Hulu series, The Confession (2011). This series followed the relationship between a faithless hitman and a priest with a questionable past. The scene study group decided to put a twist on the adaptation and my cousin played Sutherland’s character with a Cockney accent, as he one day wants to advance and be cast in a British gangster/heist film.
The scene received good reception with minor notes. They plan to repeat the performance in the weeks to come.
RLS also welcomed guest actor Greg Grunberg (Alias, Heroes). Greg was a great guest with insightful information and wisdom for the eager acting students. I had reserved questions to ask about Heroes plot points and desperately wanted to know more about his childhood friend JJ Abrams, however I refrained from ambushing him with silliness. The students asked great questions about audition preparation, past experiences, and self-promotion. (Greg loves social media and uses it wisely. He’s an avid Twitter user and created the app Yowza)… I tweeted him the night before his visit and he kindly replied AND acknowledged the tweet after I spoke to him at the end of class!
Greg is a funny and genuine person and seems to be a renaissance man within Hollywood. He’s dabbled with TV, Film, Voice/Cartoon work, Animation, Social Media, Producing, and Writing. He explained there’s no point in not trying it all and was very inspiring to the “average Joe actor.”
Below is a screen shot of our tweets (because I like to show off) as well as a pic from off stage left as I only remembered to take a pic after I had already thanked Greg for visiting.
